FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why has my application status not been updated even though it has reached the application centre?

Once your application reaches the centre, it may take up to three business days to be lodged. You will receive email and SMS notifications once your application has been lodged.

2. My application status shows "Under Assessment" and is still within the standard processing time. What should I do?

If your application status shows "Under Assessment" and remains within the standard processing time, no action is required. Your application is being processed by the Consulate. Any updates will be communicated to you. You can track your application status using the link below.

3. Can I collect my documents in person if I submitted my application by post?

No. Documents submitted by post will be returned only by post to the mailing address provided in your application.

4. I have relocated after submitting my application. Can I change my mailing address?

Once an application has been submitted and is being processed, the mailing address cannot be changed through VFS Global. If your parcel has been dispatched, you may contact Australia Post directly to enquire about available redirection options, subject to their policies.

5. I am unable to book an appointment on the VFS Global website because no slots are available. What can I do?

Appointment slots are released periodically and are subject to availability. As there is no fixed release schedule, we recommend checking the website regularly for newly available appointments.

Where permitted, applications may also be submitted by post or courier. Please note that OCI and Visa applications must be submitted in person.

6. What are the rules for appointment rescheduling, cancellation and missed appointments?

Appointments cannot be rescheduled or cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment time.

If you miss or cancel your appointment, a new appointment can be booked only after 48 hours have elapsed from the original appointment time.

7. How should I enter my passport and name details when booking an appointment?

For newborns without a passport, enter "00000000" or the passport number of a parent.

If you have a single name, enter your details exactly as they appear in your passport.

If your passport has expired, enter the expired passport number and use a future expiry date to complete the appointment booking.
